Virginia Mitigation Bank Development
and Asset Management
Various Counties, Virginia

Evergreen Environmental, LLC, staff has initiated and managed the development of six mitigation banks totaling more than 140 wetland credits in the Potomac River watershed in Virginia for Marsh Resources. These projects which began in 1999 and continue to today include the following:

  • Great Oaks Wetland Bank – Virginia Department of Transportation: This project was developed under contract to VDOT to provide 15 credits of forested wetlands. Prior to the wetlands being restored this site had been farmed for many years.

  • Cedar Run Wetland Bank – Virginia Department of Transportation: Construction of this project, which is being built under contract to VDOT, began this September and will be completed in late 2006. It will provide 17 acres of forested wetlands within the floodplain of Cedar Run.

  • Licking Run Wetland Bank - Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority: In association with Pandora Farm Wetland Bank, created 92 wetland credits for the expansion of Dulles Airport.

  • Pandora Farm Wetland Bank – Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority: On Pandora Farm the fields had been deep ripped to promote internal drainage. All of the small streams on this farm had been straightened and deepened to convey water off the fields as rapidly as possible. Historically these small streams meandered slowly across the floodplain. Construction included reengaging these small streams with their floodplain.

  • Bender Wetland Bank – Marsh Resources: This 16-credit wetland bank is under construction transforming a farm and pasture to restore riparian habitat.

  • Howser’s Branch Wetland Bank – Marsh Resources: This 17-credit wetland bank includes stream restoration as well as palustrine forested wetland. Site is currently under construction.
